Laughing is a free resource available to all of us irrespective of our situation or circumstances yet it is something that often goes ‘undone’ for long periods of time.

Contrary to popular belief you don’t need to go to a comedy event in order to laugh. Not only are there funny things in everyday life, you can also choose to laugh on purpose at anything you like. That may sound a bit strange to you but children and babies in particular are a great example of what is possible as they laugh all of the time and mostly for no reason at all.

I am a certified Laughter Leader. I think that gives me licence to enjoy the journey and help others to do the same so together let us laugh often, explore the things that make us smile, laugh and perhaps get some tips on how to increase the laughter quotient in our lives.

The following acronym, courtesy of the Laughter Network, sums up the important role laughter has to play in our lives.

Laughter releases endorphins, giving us the ‘feel good factor’
Acts as aerobic exercise and is like ‘internal jogging’
Unleashes inhibitions, breaks down barriers
Great team building tool encourages better communication
Helps boost our immune system which helps us resist disease
Tones muscles, improves respiration and circulation
Encourages positive thinking and creativity
Relaxes the whole body by reducing stress and tension
